Pepe Unchained (PEPU) is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and the native currency of the Pepe Unchained Layer-2 network, a meme focused rollup that uses Ethereum for settlement. The current PEPU contract has a fixed supply of 16 billion tokens. On the L2, PEPU is used as gas for transactions and smart contract calls and is required to use dApps, send assets and trade. Holders can stake PEPU on the L2 to earn rewards and bridge tokens between Ethereum and the Pepe Unchained chain. PEPU is the main trading and liquidity asset on the project’s own DEX and in local DeFi markets. It also funds ecosystem incentives such as developer grants and community rewards, with governance described as a planned use. Pepe Unchained was launched in 2024 through a presale and later migrated to a new token contract and L2 stack, while the team remains anonymous under the Pepe Unchained brand.
